To use TextPipe...
- On the Filters to Apply tab,
tell TextPipe what to do by choosing filters from the Convert,
Add,
Remove,
Email,
Replace,
Special,
Map and
Restrict menus
- Drag and drop your files or folders to anywhere in TextPipe's window. They
will get added to the Files to
Process tab
- Click the [Go] button.
Testing filters first...
You can test a filter by
- Pasting text into the Trial Run
Area, then clicking the [Trial Run] button
OR
- Clicking the File Output
filter at the base of the filter tree, ensure that Test Mode is
checked, then click the [Go] button.
Designing filters...
TextPipe's filter list is built up from a series of modular filters, each
performing a small task. For example, the task of extracting email addresses
from a group of files might look like this:
- Email menu\Extract
email addresses - returns one email address per line
- Special menu\Merge -
merge all the email addresses into one big file
- Special menu\Sort (case
insensitive, removing duplicates)
- Remove
menu\Remove matching lines (to remove your own email address, or known bad
email addresses)
To use these addresses in Outlook, you must convert them from one email
address per line to a semi-colon separated list of email addresses.
- Convert Menu\End of
line characters (convert from DOS format to the string ';')
To design a filter, you may have to reduce the problem down to a series of
simpler steps. Use Special menu\Comment
filters to document your design.
